Officer doxxing and swatting: how an attacker gets from a public name to a home address, and how family members get pulled in. Daniel's Law, the New Jersey statute passed after the 2020 murder of Judge Esther Salas's son, Daniel Anderl. It lets police, judges, prosecutors, corrections officers, and their families require data brokers to stop publishing their home address and unpublished phone number. The state laws modeled on it. The federal Daniel Anderl Judicial Security and Privacy Act, which bars data brokers from selling federal judges' personal information. Address confidentiality programs, the state programs that give a participant a substitute mailing address, and the records those programs don't reach. Why one-time opt-outs don't hold, and why removed listings come back. We don't comment on specific incidents involving identified victims without their consent.
